Great Art Isn’t The Goal.

Focusing on the final product breeds perfectionism.

▸  We artists pour our heart into creating work that we can be proud of, so when the goal is perfection, and the drawing falls short, the result is disappointment.

▸  But skill doesn’t have a consistent output; every artist produces a range of quality, regardless of unwavering effort.

▸  And the eye is always one step ahead of the hand - we’re wired to notice the flaws in our work.

▸  So when the goal is only the final product, then the act of drawing becomes a test of pass or fail.

Draw for the sake of drawing.

▸  On the other hand, the work itself never disappoints; every session brings challenges, discoveries & small improvements.

▸  Finished drawings then become merely artifacts left behind by the process.

▸  And skill is a side effect of repetition; when you do the work, the score takes care of itself.

▸  Making GREAT art is Important but MAKING art is more important.

▸  Don’t draw to make drawings - Draw to draw.
