▸  How do you go from not knowing how to draw to confidently creating complex artwork?

This Is How You Learn How To Draw.

1. Observe Patterns.

2. Understand The “Why.”

3. Learn Design.

1. Observe Patterns.

▸  The world has so many details, it can seem chaotic & random.

▸  But when you look closely, there are many simple patterns that repeat.

▸  Even just a few key concepts may be used to draw anything.

▸  Learning to draw is learning to pay closer attention to the patterns that you’ve already seen many times.

▸  Learning to draw, therefore, is learning to see.

2. Understand The “Why.”

▸  An observation by itself may be difficult to remember.

▸  Because human brains are hardwired for cause & effect.

▸  Once you understand why, you’re more likely to remember it.

▸  Moreover, you’ll gain the ability to think abstractly, and create new scenarios -

▸  Entirely from imagination.

3. Learn Design.

▸  Yet still, remembering patterns and understanding “why” are not enough.

▸  Because the goal of art is not to copy reality…

▸  But to create something that is better than reality.

▸  Design is what helps us make difficult choices -

▸  About what we choose to simplify…

▸  Or exaggerate.

▸  If the object is ‘what we say’ -

▸  Then design is ‘how we say it.’

Observe patterns, understand the “why” & learn design -

- is how you learn how to draw everything.
